How to make a vCard QR code

Fill in your name and whatever else people need: job title, company, phone, email, website and address. Only the name is required. The preview updates as you type. Download the PNG to put on a business card, email signature or slide, or download the .vcf file to send the contact directly. When someone scans the code, their phone offers to add you as a new contact with every field already filled in.

Where it goes wrong

The more you add, the denser the code becomes, and a dense code is harder to scan from a small print. If the squares look tiny, remove the address or the website. Keep the printed code at least 2 cm wide. Phone numbers should include the country code, such as +1 or +44, so they dial correctly from abroad. Some older Android camera apps only show the text instead of the contact prompt; a free scanner app handles those.

What is inside the code

The code contains a plain vCard 3.0 text card, the format that iPhone, Android, Outlook and Google Contacts all import. Nothing is shortened or redirected, so the code works forever and needs no internet connection to read. That also means anyone who scans it sees every field you entered, so do not include details you want to keep private. Everything runs in your browser; the details are never uploaded and there is no account. If your details change, make a new code and reprint.

FAQ

Is the vCard QR code generator free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit. You can download the QR as a PNG and the contact as a .vcf file.

Does my contact information get uploaded?

No. The vCard is built in your browser and never sent to a server. Close the tab and it is gone.

What happens when someone scans it?

The phone camera shows a prompt to add the contact. iPhone and most Android phones then open a pre-filled new contact screen, and the person taps Save.

Can I use it on a business card?

Yes. Print the code at least 2 cm wide. The more fields you fill in, the denser the code gets, so keep it to what people really need: name, phone, email and website are enough.

Can I edit the details after printing?

A static code stores the details inside the picture, so any change means a new code. If you want a code that survives changes, the dynamic version is coming.
